Old-Time Starter - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. unsifted flour
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    1 1/2 c. water
    1 Tbsp. vinegar
    1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Combine flour, sugar and salt in a stone crock or bowl.
    Mix well.
    Add water and beat to a smooth batter.
    Cover with cheesecloth; set in a warm place until thoroughly sour.
    You determine this by the yeastly smell, usually takes about 12 hours. This Starter gathers yeast from the air to provide leavening. Keep in refrigerator.
