Ingredients

1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. lard
1 egg
2 1/4 c. plain flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
salt (if desired)
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. soda
1/2 c. chopped nuts
Preparation

Cream butter, lard and sugar together; add eggs and mix thoroughly.
Add
vanilla.
Sift
flour, soda, cream of tartar and salt together;
add
to
cream
mixture.
Stir in nuts and chill. Shape in
balls
the
size
of
a walnut.
Dip tops in sugar.
Put 2
inches apart on cookie sheet.
Bake in moderate oven at 350\u00b0 about 15 minutes.
Makes 4 1/2 dozen cookies.
