Parsnip Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. fresh parsnips
    1 lb. potatoes
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1/2 lb. salt pork
    cracker crumbs (2 crackers)
Preparation
    Chop pork fine and put through grinder.
    Pare potatoes and parsnips; slice.
    Put one layer of pork, one layer of potatoes and one layer of parsnip.
    Repeat until all are used.
    Cover with cold water; season with pepper and salt.
    Cook 45 minutes.
    Note: Cost, including gas heat, = $0.2137 in 1917 terms.
