Divinity - cooking recipe
Ingredients

4 c. white sugar
1 c. white Karo
1 c. boiling water
3 egg whites
1 c. walnuts or pecans
Preparation

Beat egg whites until stiff and dry.
Cook sugar, syrup and water until soft ball stage is formed.
Pour 1/2 syrup over beaten egg whites and beat while remaining syrup cooks to hard ball or brittle stage. Remove this last cooking from low heat, add first syrup and egg mixture to kettle and beat until it will almost hold, or slightly stiff.
Add 1 cup chopped nuts.
Beat with wooden spoon until it will not move.
Beginning at edge of pan, remove by teaspoon onto waxed paper.
Do not add nuts while syrup is too hot as it draws oil from nuts and will not hold up.
Also, do not overcook.
