Fruited Caramel Squares - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. fruit cocktail
    1/4 c. shortening
    1 c. brown sugar, packed
    1 egg
    1 tsp. vanilla
    3/4 c. sifted flour
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. chopped nuts
    2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
    2 Tbsp. white sugar
Preparation
    Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla until light and fluffy.
    Sift in dry ingredients.
    Add drained fruit and nuts. Turn mixture into well greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan.
    Combine melted butter and sugar and pour over top of batter.
    Bake at 350\u00b0
    for 45 minutes.
