Ingredients

3/4 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. soft shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. shredded coconut, snipped
1 Tbsp. melted butter
1 Tbsp. granulated sugar
Preparation

Sift flour, measure and sift with baking powder and salt. Cream shortening; add sugar and mix well.
Add egg and vanilla, beat well.
Mix in flour mixture and 1 cup coconut.
Spread in a well-greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking pan.
Mix together 1/2 cup coconut, butter and granulated sugar.
Sprinkle over batter in pan.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 35
minutes.
Cut into squares while warm. Cool in pan.
Makes 16 squares.
