Southern Hush Puppies - cooking recipe

Ingredients

2 c. cornmeal
1 Tbsp. all purpose flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
1 egg, slightly beaten
2 Tbsp. finely chopped onion
oil

Preparation

Combine dry ingredients, add buttermilk, egg and onion, mix well. Carefully drop batter by tablespoonfuls into deep hot oil. Cook a few at a time, turning once. Fry until golden brown, drain. Yield 2-1/2 dozen.
