United States Senate Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    10 oz. small white beans
    1 1/4 c. diced ham or smoked turkey wings or legs
    1 chopped onion
    1/2 c. chopped celery with tops
    2 Tbsp. chopped parsley
    1/2 Tbsp. garlic salt
    dash of black pepper
    7 1/2 c. water
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Mix beans, ham, onion and the rest of ingredients in a large pot.
    Bring to a boil; stir.
    Lower heat and cover.
    Boil gently for 45 minutes or until done.
    Mash a few of the beans to thicken. Cook for 10 to 20 minutes more.
    Freezes well.
