Red Velvet Cake - cooking recipe

1/2 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 oz. red food coloring
2 Tbsp. cocoa
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
2 1/4 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 Tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. soda
Preparation

Cream shortening; add sugar gradually.
Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each one.
Make paste of cocoa and coloring, then add to mixture.
Add salt and flour (that has been sifted 3 times) and vanilla alternately with buttermilk.
Mix completely and beat well, but do not beat soda and vinegar. Sprinkle soda over batter, then pour vinegar over it.
Fold it thoroughly through the batter.
Bake in layers at 350\u00b0.
