Layered Lettuce Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head lettuce, broken into bite size pieces
    1/2 c. diced onion
    1/2 c. diced celery
    1 can water chestnuts, sliced thinly
    1 pkg. frozen peas, thawed and drained
    1 1/2 c. mayonnaise
    3 Tbsp. sugar
    5 to 6 Tbsp. Parmesan cheese (may use shredded Cheddar, about 6 oz.)
    1/2 c. crumbled bacon
Preparation
    In large casserole, place lettuce.
    Layer the onion, celery, water chestnuts and peas.
    Spread mayonnaise and sugar mixture over top like frosting.
    Sprinkle with cheese.
    Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
    Sprinkle with bacon bits before serving.
