Plastic Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    10 lb. thin sliced cucumbers (approximately)
    1 box alum (large)
    1 qt. lime
    1 qt. plain salt
    cold water
    2 qt. vinegar
    6 lb. sugar
    1/2 box pickling spices
Preparation
    Step 1:
    Place cucumber slices in a stone or glass jar. Cover with lime dissolved in 1
    or
    2
    quarts cold water.
    Let stand 12 hours.
    Drain and
    wash
    in
    cold water.
    Slices must always be completely covered in
    each step.
    Add a little more or less water, as needed.
