Date Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. boiling water
1 tsp. soda
1 c. cut dates
1 c. sugar
1 egg
2 Tbsp. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour
nuts

Preparation

Pour boiling water and soda over dates; let cool.
Add sugar, egg, shortening, vanilla and flour; add nuts.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes in 8 or 9-inch cake pan.
Serve with Dream Whip.
