Hopping John - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. dried red beans or whole peas
    ham bone
    4 slices bacon
    1 1/2 c. rice
    salt and pepper
    water
Preparation
    Wash and soak beans overnight; drain.
    Cover beans with water. Add ham bone and bacon; cook until beans are soft.
    Add rice and salt and pepper.
    Cook rapidly for 20 minutes.
    Lower heat and steam for 30 minutes.
