Squash Spectacular - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. yellow squash, cleaned and sliced
    2 Tbsp. margarine or butter
    1/2 c. chopped onion
    1/2 c. chopped bell pepper
    1/2 c. water chestnuts
    1/2 c. Cheddar cheese, grated
    1/2 c. mayonnaise
    1 tsp. sugar
    1 egg, well beaten
    buttered bread crumbs
    salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
    Cook squash in boiling water until tender, about 5 minutes.
    Drain well and mash.
    Saute onions, bell pepper and water chestnuts in butter.
    When tender, combine with squash.
    Fold in cheese, mayonnaise, sugar, egg, salt and pepper. Pour into buttered 1 1/2-quart casserole.
    Top with buttered bread crumbs and bake 30 minutes.
