30 gal. apple cider
12 gal. apples, peeled and cut in small pieces called snits
Preparation

Put 10 gallons of cider in a copper-lined iron kettle over a fire outside.
Measure or mark the pot where 10 gallons comes to. This will be the line of the finished apple butter.
