French Onion Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    5 c. beef broth (canned, low sodium)
    1/2 Tbsp. margarine (low sodium)
    1 medium onion
    1/2 tsp. sugar
    2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
    1/2 c. white table wine
    1/2 tsp. thyme leaves
    1 tsp. bay leaves
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    4 slices French bread
    1 medium garlic clove
    1/2 c. grated Parmesan cheese
Preparation
    In a large heavy saucepan, melt the margarine over moderate heat; slice the onion and add to saucepan, cooking, uncovered, until golden, 8 to 10 minutes.
    Blend the sugar and flour; cook, stirring, 3 minutes longer.
