Old Fashioned Stack Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

3/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. shortening
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 c. flour
3/4 tsp. soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1 qt. dried fruit (sweetened to taste)
Preparation

Add sugar and shortening, beat well.
Add egg and stir in molasses and buttermilk.
Sift together all dry ingredients several times.
Add to cake mixture.
Add additional flour to make dough stiff.
Knead on floured board.
Divide into 5 portions. Bake each in 9-inch cake pans that have been greased and floured. Bake about 10 minutes at 370\u00b0.
Stack layers with dried fruit in between each layer.
