Ingredients

1/2 c. soft shortening (half butter)
1/4 c. brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. salt
Preparation

Mix shortening, sugar, egg yolk and vanilla thoroughly.
Sift together the flour and salt and stir in.
Roll into 1-inch balls. Dip in slightly beaten egg whites.
Roll in finely chopped nuts (3/4 cup).
Place 1-inch apart on ungreased baking sheet.
Press center with spoon or thumb.
Bake until set, about 10 to 12 minutes at 375\u00b0.
Cool.
Place jelly in center.
