Apple Dumplings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1/4 c. shortening
    2 c. flour
    2 c. water
    6 apples
    3/4 c. shortening
    1/4 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 c. milk
    2 tsp. baking soda
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    1 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Combine sugar, water, cinnamon and nutmeg to make sauce.
    Cook 5 minutes.
    Add butter.
    Pare and core apples.
    Sift flour, salt and baking powder; cut in shortening.
    Add milk all at once.
    Stir fast until flour is moistened.
    Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut six 5-inch squares.
    Place 1 apple on each square; dot with butter.
    Fold corners and pinch edges.
    Place 1 inch apart in greased pan.
    Pour sauce over dumplings.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 35 minutes.
