Brown Bread - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 cake compressed yeast
4 c. lukewarm water
1/2 c. molasses
1 Tbsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening, melted
6 c. white flour
2 c. whole wheat or graham flour
1/2 c. sugar
Preparation

Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup water; let stand 15 minutes.
Add remaining water, salt, molasses, sugar and shortening.
Add enough flour to make a soft sponge.
Beat thoroughly for about 10 minutes.
Add rest of flour.
Knead.
Then place in greased bowl. Cover.
Place in warm area.
When dough has doubled, knead again. Let rise.
Shape into 4 loaves.
Let rise.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for about 45 minutes.
Brush tops with melted butter.
