Onion Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. Vidalia onions, peeled and sliced
    1/3 c. salt
    3 1/2 c. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    3 1/2 c. vinegar
    2 tsp. pickling spice
Preparation
    Peel onions; slice and sprinkle with salt.
    Cover with ice and let stand for 3 hours; drain well.
    Put in medium pot and mix with all other ingredients in large bowl.
    Mix well.
    Pour over onions and heat to boiling.
    Boil 1 minute.
    Place in jars and seal.
    Makes 6 to 8 pints.
