Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 lbs. cucumbers (about 4 in. long, thinly sliced, not pared)
    4 large onions, shredded
    2 green peppers, shredded
    1/2 c. salt
    5 c. cider vinegar
    5 c. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    2 Tbsp. mustard seeds
    2 Tbsp + 2 tsp celery seed
    16 whole cloves
Preparation
    Mix together cucumbers, onions, green
    peppers and salt in large bowl or earthenware crock. Cover vegetables with small ice cubes and cover with a weighted plate and set aside for about 3 hours.
