Jellied Apples - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 medium size apples
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    1/4 c. cold water
    juice of 1 lemon
Preparation
    Cook on
    top of stove.\tPare and core apples.
    Place in enameled pan and sift sugar over them.
    Add 1/4 cup cold water and lemon
    juice.
    Cover
    and
    let come to boil.
    Remove cover and continue
    to
    cook.
    When
    bottom
    of apple is clear, turn with an egg
    whip
    or spoon so other end will be in the syrup. When done (or
    syrup\tis
    ready
    to jell), take up apples and place
    on a platter.
    Fill center with cherries or dates, nuts or raisins. Serves 8.
