Corn Bread - cooking recipe

1 c. yellow corn meal
2 Tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. milk
2 Tbsp. melted shortening
Preparation

Sift together the dry ingredients.
Mix egg and milk; stir into dry mixture.
Add melted shortening and mix thoroughly.
Pour into hot skillet with 1 tablespoon shortening.
Bake in a preheated oven at 450\u00b0 until golden brown.
