Ingredients

1 c. white sugar
1 c. shortening
1 tsp. ginger
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. allspice
2 eggs
1 c. molasses
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. ice water
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Mix sugar, shortening and add eggs.
Mix flour and other dry ingredients.
Add molasses and ice water and alternate with flour. Add vanilla.
Drop by teaspoon and sprinkle a little sugar on top and add a nut or raisins, too, if so desired.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 7 to 10 minutes.
