Caramel Apple Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. butter or margarine
    1/4 c. shortening
    1 c. packed brown sugar
    1 3/4 c. flour
    1 c. rolled oats
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 c. chopped pecans (optional)
    4 1/2 c. peeled, coarsely chopped apples
    3 Tbsp. flour
    3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
    1 (14 oz.) pkg. caramels
Preparation
    In mixing bowl, cream butter, shortening and sugar.
    Add flour, oats, salt, soda and pecans.
    Mix well.
    Set aside 2 cups. Press remaining into 9 x 13-inch pan.
    Toss apples and flour together.
    Spread in pan.
    Melt caramels and margarine over low heat (or microwave).
    Drizzle over apples.
    Top with remaining mixture.
    Bake at 400\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes.
