Aunt Janice'S Homemade Caramels(When You Have Plenty Of Time!) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    2 c. lite Karo syrup
    1/2 c. butter
    1/4 tsp. salt
    2 c. evaporated milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    In a large double boiler, bring the first 4 ingredients to a slow boil, stirring constantly (use a medium burner).
    Slowly add evaporated milk, keeping the boiling constant and continually stirring, until 248\u00b0 on a candy thermometer is reached.
    Remove from heat and add vanilla.
    Pour all into a buttered 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
    As cooled, wrap caramel in bite size pieces, using wax paper as the wrap.
