Red Velvet Cake - cooking recipe

3/4 c. shortening
2 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 c. plain flour
1 Tbsp. cocoa
salt
1 c. buttermilk
vanilla flavoring
2 oz. red food coloring
1 tsp. soda
1 Tbsp. vinegar
2 c. milk
1 stick margarine

Preparation

Cream 1/2 cup shortening and 1 1/2 cups sugar.
Add eggs.
Sift together three times 2 cups plain flour, cocoa and 1/2 teaspoon salt and set aside.
Mix together buttermilk, 1 teaspoon vanilla and red food coloring and beat well.
Add flour mixture and milk mixture alternately to shortening and sugar mixture.
Mix soda in vinegar and mix into batter.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 to 35 minutes.
