Applesauce Cake(From The Files Of Ola Dortch Williams) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg
    1 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. cloves
    1/2 c. shortening, softened
    1 c. sugar
    2 eggs (unbeaten )
    1 c. thick cold applesauce
    3/4 c. raisins or chopped dates
    1/2 c. chopped walnuts or pecans
Preparation
    Sift together the flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, soda and cloves.
    Beat together on medium-high speed for 1 1/2 minutes the shortening, sugar and 2 unbeaten eggs.
    Add the applesauce, raisins, nuts and the sifted flour mixture.
    Beat on medium speed about 1 1/2 minutes.
    Pour into prepared pans and bake at 350\u00b0 for about 55 minutes.
    Frost with caramel icing.
