Ingredients

1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter or margarine
1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 egg yolk
1 egg white (reserve)
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1/8 tsp. maple flavoring
split pecan halves
Preparation

Sift together dry ingredients.
Blend butter and sugar thoroughly; add egg and egg yolk and beat well.
Blend in flavorings.
Add dry ingredients gradually; mix thoroughly. Arrange split pecan halves (rounded side up) in groups of three on greased cookie sheets to resemble head and legs of a turtle.
Mold dough into balls.
Dip bottom of ball into unbeaten egg white and press onto nuts.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 10 to 12 minutes.
Do not overbake.
Cool and frost generously.
Makes 2 1/2 dozen.
