Chunky Potato Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 medium red potatoes
    2 c. water
    1 small onion
    3 Tbsp. butter
    3 Tbsp. flour
    crushed red pepper
    black pepper
    3 c. milk
    1/2 tsp. sugar
    1 c. shredded cheese
    1 c. cooked diced ham
Preparation
    Peel potatoes. Cut in inch cubes. Bring water to boil. Add potatoes. Cook until tender. Measure 1 cup of liquid (add water, if necessary). Set aside. Chop onion (finely). Melt butter in saucepan over medium heat. Add onion. Cook, stirring frequently, until onion is translucent. Add flour to saucepan. Season with peppers. Cook 3 to 4 minutes. Gradually add potatoes, reserved 1 cup liquid, milk and sugar to onion mix. Stir well. Add cheese and ham. Simmer over low heat about 30 minutes.
