Ingredients

1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
3 1/2 c. self-rising flour
1/2 c. milk
Preparation

Cream shortening and sugar.
Add egg and beat well.
Add flour alternately with milk and vanilla, mixing thoroughly after each addition.
Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/8-inch thickness.
Cut with a floured cookie cutter.
Sprinkle with sugar, if desired.
Bake on lightly greased baking sheet at 350\u00b0 for about 15 minutes.
Makes 3 to 4 dozen.
