Waldorf Astoria Red Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    2 heaping Tbsp. cocoa
    2 oz. red food coloring
    1 1/8 c. buttermilk
    2 1/4 c. cake flour
    2 1/2 c. regular flour, sifted
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. vinegar (red)
Preparation
    Cream shortening and sugar.
    Add eggs and set aside.
    Make a paste of cocoa and food coloring; add to creamed mixture.
    Add buttermilk alternately with flours mixed with salt.
    Add vanilla. Combine baking soda and vinegar and add to batter.
    Blend well. Turn into 2 lightly greased and floured 8 or 9-inch cake pans. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 25 to 35 minutes.
    Cool slightly, then turn out on rack.
    Cool completely before frosting.
