Grandma'S Christmas Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 egg, beat lightly
    1 large c. sugar
    1 c. shortening (butter and shortening mixed)
    2 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. buttermilk plus 1 level tsp. baking soda stirred into buttermilk
    about 4 c. flour plus 1 heaping tsp. baking powder, sifted with flour
Preparation
    Cream egg, sugar, butter and vanilla until fine.
    Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture.
    Mix well. Chill.
    Then roll out on floured board adding more flour until dough rolls out easily.
    Cut with Christmas cookie cutters.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for about 8 to 10 minutes.
    Frost and decorate.
    Makes about 6 dozen.
