Meat Balls With Spaghetti - cooking recipe

1 onion, chopped
3 Tbsp. shortening
1 (No. 2) can tomatoes (2 1/2 c.)
2 (6 oz.) cans tomato paste
2 c. water
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 bay leaf
1 lb. ground beef
1/2 lb. sausage
1 c. fine, dry bread crumbs
1/2 c. grated Parmesan cheese
1 sprig parsley, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 c. milk
2 well-beaten eggs
salt and pepper
long spaghetti, cooked
Preparation

Cook onion in hot oil until golden.
Add tomatoes, tomato paste, water, sugar, salt, pepper and bay leaf.
Cook slowly 1 hour.
