Ingredients

3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. margarine or butter, softened
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour *
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/8 tsp. salt
2 to 3 oz. filberts
Glaze (following)
sugar
Preparation

Heat oven to 375\u00b0.
Mix 3/4 cup sugar, the margarine, shortening and egg.
Stir in flour, vanilla, baking powder and salt.
Shape dough by teaspoonfuls around filberts to form balls. Place about 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake until delicately brown, 12 to 15 minutes; cool.
Dip tops of cookies into Glaze, then into sugar.
Makes about 7 dozen.
