Tea Time Scones - cooking recipe

2 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 egg
1 Tbsp. sugar
1/3 cup butter (or oleo), chilled
Preparation

Combine dry ingredients. With pastry blender or two knives, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In separate bowl, combine egg, buttermilk, and vanilla. Using fork, stir into dry ingredients to form a soft dough. Gather into a ball. Knead lightly (10 times) on floured surface. Pat dough 1/2-inch thick. Cut as you would cut a pie; do not separate pieces.
