Ingredients

4 c. flour
5 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2/3 c. cold unsalted butter (10 2/3 Tbsp.), cut in bits
1 1/2 c. buttermilk
Preparation

Sift dry ingredients together; add butter and cut in until texture of coarse meal.
Stir in buttermilk and mix to form soft dough.
Knead on floured surface 2 minutes and pat into a round 1/2-inch thick.
Cut with a 2-inch biscuit cutter (don't twist) and bake on ungreased tins at 450\u00b0 for 12 to 14 minutes.
Makes about 2 dozen.
