Date Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 c. chopped dates
1 c. boiling water
1/2 c. Crisco
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 2/3 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. chopped pecans
Preparation

Cover dates with boiling water, cool to lukewarm.
Cream Crisco and sugar.
Add eggs and vanilla, beat well.
Add date mixture.
Sift dry ingredients and add to mixture; beat well.
Add nuts.
Bake in 8-inch square pan in a moderate oven 35 to 40 minutes (loaf pan can be used).
