Homemade White Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 tsp. yeast
    1 tsp. sugar
    1/2 c. warm water
    1 1/2 c. warm water
    6 to 6 1/2 c. all-purpose flour, divided
    1/3 c. softened shortening
    1 Tbsp. salt
Preparation
    In a 4-quart mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in 1/2 cup warm water.
    Let mixture stand for 5 minutes, then add 1 1/2 cups warm water and 3 cups all-purpose flour.
    Beat until smooth, about 100 strokes.
    Cover; let rise 2 hours.
