Campfire Ragout - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/3 to 1/2 lb. bacon
    2 lb. round steak, cut into strips
    3 onions, sliced
    6 to 8 carrots, sliced
    6 to 8 potatoes, sliced
    1 c. water
    salt and pepper
Preparation
    Layer bottom of pot with bacon.
    Add layer of round steak; salt and pepper.
    Add layer of onions and layer of sliced carrots; salt and pepper.
    Add layer of sliced potatoes; salt and pepper. Add water; cover and cook slowly for about 1 hour on stove, longer on campfire.
    To serve, do not stir.
    Cut through the layers and dish up.
