Ingredients

1/2 c. butter
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. molasses
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 1/2 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1 dash black pepper
Preparation

Cream butter and sugar well.
Beat in egg. Mix in molasses. Sift flour with baking soda and spices.
Add to butter mixture gradually, mixing thoroughly after each addition.
Chill overnight.
