Cold Water Cocoa Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 c. sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
    3 egg yolks
    2 1/4 c. flour
    1/2 c. cocoa
    1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. salt
    1 1/3 c. cold water
    3 egg whites
    3/4 c. sugar
Preparation
    Cream shortening and 1 cup sugar.
    Add vanilla and egg yolks, one at a time, until well blended.
    Sift flour, salt, cocoa and soda.
    Add to creamed mixture alternately with the water.
    Beat egg whites to soft peaks.
    Gradually add 3/4 cup sugar.
    Beat to stiff peaks.
    Fold into batter.
