Easy Homemade Split Pea Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 bag dried split peas
    6 qt. water
    1 medium onion, chopped
    3 cloves garlic, minced, or garlic powder
    2 carrots, sliced
    2 stalks celery, sliced
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. thyme
    1/2 tsp. pepper
    2 thick slices tavern ham (1/4 lb.), diced
Preparation
    Rinse peas.
    Boil in water for about 1 hour.
    Add salt, thyme, garlic and pepper.
    Add chopped carrots, celery and onion.
    Stir in diced ham.
    Simmer 1 more hour until vegetables are tender.
    Serve with fresh crusty bread and a dollop of sour cream.
