Ingredients

2 1/4 c. dates
1 c. sugar
1 c. water
1 c. nuts
2 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening
3 eggs, beaten
4 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. soda
Preparation

Put dates, sugar and water in a saucepan and cook until thick. Add nuts and cool.
Cream the brown sugar and shortening.
Add eggs.
Beat in flour, salt, baking powder and soda.
Chill dough.
