Knobby Apple Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. (3 to 4) diced apples (skins removed)
    2 Tbsp. shortening or margarine
    3/4 c. sugar
    1 egg
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. seal (optional)
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 c. chopped nuts (I use walnuts)
Preparation
    Cream sugar and shortening; add egg and beat well.
    Sift together flour, cinnamon and baking soda; add to mixture, then add vanilla.
    Fold in apples and nuts.
    Batter will be quite stiff, but apples will moisten.
    Pour batter into 8 x 8-inch greased and floured dish.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 40 to 45 minutes.
    Cut into squares.
    Delicious topped with whipped cream or ice cream.
