Date Torte - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. dates
    1 tsp. butter
    1 c. water
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 c. sugar
    1 c. flour
    2 eggs, beaten
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. nuts, chopped
Preparation
    Boil until thick the dates, butter and water; cool, then add soda, sugar, eggs, salt, vanilla, flour and nuts.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 40 minutes.
    When cool, whip 1 pint of whipping cream and dribble with chocolate syrup.
    Refrigerate overnight.
