Caramel Candy - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. milk
    1/4 tsp. soda
    2 Tbsp. butter
    peanut butter (optional)
    1/2 c. water
    1/2 c. nuts, chopped
    2 Tbsp. syrup
Preparation
    Brown sugar in an iron skillet.
    Then mix in a large saucepan all ingredients except nuts.
    Bring to a boil.
    Cook until it forms a soft ball when tested by dropping a little in cold water. Add nuts or peanut butter or both.
    Beat until smooth.
    Pour into a buttered dish.
    Cool then cut into small squares.
