Ingredients

1 lb. dates
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 well beaten egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped nuts
Preparation

Combine dates, water and granulated sugar in saucepan.
Cook until thick (2 to 3 minutes), stirring constantly.
Cool. Thoroughly cream the butter and second two sugars; add egg and beat well.
Add vanilla. Sift dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture, stirring until smooth after each addition.
Chill.
