Janette'S Black-Eyed Pea Dip - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/4 c. black-eyed peas
    2 garlic cloves, sliced
    3 oz. cream cheese, softened
    1 tsp. cayenne pepper
    1 tsp. chili powder
    1 1/2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 400\u00b0.
    Place peas in heavy medium saucepan and add enough water to cover by 2 inches.
    Let stand with garlic for 1/2 hour, then boil until peas are tender, about 1 hour, adding water, if necessary.
    Drain and place in food processor with remaining ingredients except for the cheese and onions.
    Pulse until smooth, and season with salt and pepper.
    Place in 8-inch pie plate and warm in oven at 400\u00b0 for 20 minutes.
    Sprinkle with cheese, wait until melted, and then garnish with the green onions. Serve with white corn chips.
